This theme was chosen because of the ever-increasing impact of digital technologies on contemporary society, which is revolutionising the metrology community. It is one of the most interesting trends of today.<\/p>\n<p>More broadly, metrology, as the science of measurement, plays a central role in scientific discovery and innovation, in industrial production, in international trade, in improving the quality of life and in protecting the environment.<\/p>\n<p>World Metrology Day is an annual celebration of the signing of the Metric Convention on 20 May 1875 by representatives of seventeen nations. The Convention established a framework for global cooperation in metrology and its industrial, commercial and societal applications.
