Public consultation – revision of Regulation (EU) No 1025/2011 on European standardisation

The European Commission has launched public consultation on the planned revision Regulation (EU) No 1025/2012 on European Standardisation, which constitutes the legal basis for the use of standards, in particular harmonised standards, This review, announced in the 2025 Competitiveness Compass for the EU, aims to ensure that standard-setting processes are faster and more affordable, especially for SMEs and start-ups, and thus strengthen EU competitiveness and technological sovereignty. Although the current Regulation has improved the provision of standards, significant problems remain regarding the speed and responsiveness of the system to innovation, balanced stakeholder participation, accessibility (harmonised) standards and the EU's influence on international standardisation.
The consultation focuses in particular on standards developed in support of EU legislation and policies, including harmonised standards (and not other sectoral standards).
The consultation is intended for to all interested parties, including business, civil society, European standardisation organisations, national standardisation bodies, consumers, research institutions, public administrations and others.
You can participate in the consultation by filling in the online questionnaire, also available in Czech version here, until 17 December 2025 at the latest.
